James Harden appears to be the primary superstar target for the Philadelphia 76ers. According to a report by Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers are heavily invested in acquiring Harden and could be making a move even now.

Per the Inquirer:

“James Harden or bust? That’s the feeling around the NBA as the 76ers search for ways to end the Ben Simmons saga. The Sixers are looking to trade Simmons, who has yet to play this season after requesting to be moved in August. “At the end of the day, it’s Harden all the way,” said a league source, speaking on condition of anonymity. ‘They want Harden whether they get him now. Whether they get him on a forced sign-and-trade this summer.'”

The presence of Daryl Morey as president of the Sixers can be a major factor in the team’s pursuit of Harden. Morey was the man who completed the Harden trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Houston Rockets in 2012 when he was general manager on the latter and has “maintained a close relationship” with the Beard, as the Inquirer says.

Harden played the best basketball of his career with the Rockets, winning MVP in 2018 and being named an All-Star in every single season.
