Nikola Jokic has never been someone too ecstatic about the whole spotlight the NBA brings and the same goes for the All-Star Weekend. That perhaps makes it even more enjoyable for him in a way, not caring about anything else for those few days except about having fun.
It was Jokic’s fourth All-Star Game appearance and he’s never been keen on dominating the floor, unlike for the Denver Nuggets. This time was his best with ‘just’ ten points, nine rebounds, eight assists.
“For me it is. I don’t know what to do. I was just having fun. I’m glad to share the court with the guys. Ten amazing guys on the floor. I was the best inbounder on the planet. We won the game,” Jokic said, admitting jokingly how he has no idea what to do in an All-Star game.
He didn’t care much about sitting out the final minutes of the game, giving his support to teammates from the bench.
“I don’t care, man, I’m just glad we won the game. That’s the most important thing. I enjoyed. I was screaming from the bench, a bit nervous, but we pulled it off.”
And he especially didn’t care because his coach at that moment, Mony Williams, impressed him in a big way. When asked about the highlight of the weekend, Jokic was insisting on putting coach Monty who surprised him as a person.
“If I’m gonna take one thing from this All-Star, it’s Monty Williams. He surprised me. In the best possible way. As a person, as a coach, as a man, as a human being. How calm he is. You feel like you can talk to him about anything. Just being around him. I talked to him a bit and he gave us a speech. Just the way the guys are listening to him, he’s not yelling, nothing, he’s just calm and everybody’s listening,” Jokic said.
