It’s not exactly common for a big man to win the NBA scoring title and Embiid became the first to claim it in over two decades.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is the scoring king of the 2021-22 NBA season. The All-Star big man officially completes this campaign as the leading scorer in the league since Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is out of his team’s last regular-season game vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Embiid, currently with 30.6 points before the last regular-season game against the Detroit Pistons, becomes the first international player ever to win the scoring title and the first center to do so since Shaquille O’ Neal in 1999-2000. Giannis finishes the season with 29.9 points.

The last time the Sixers had an NBA scoring champion was in 2005 when Allen Iverson claimed the honor for the fourth time in his career.

Apart from his 30.6 points, Embiid also averages 11.7 points and 4.2 assists per game over 33.8 minutes, being one of the top contenders for the MVP award. The Sixers are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference behind the Cameroonian center’s output and can finish third if they beat the Pistons and the Boston Celtics defeat the Memphis Grizzlies on the road.
