Luka Doncic’s fourth NBA season came to an end Thursday, as the Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks 120-110 in Game 5 to return to the NBA finals, and the Slovenian superstar went through a range of emotions while talking to reporters after the game.

“I don’t like losing, especially like this,” said Doncic, who scored 28 points on 10-of-28 FG. “I played terrible”.

Despite the obvious disappointment of the defeat and his shortcoming in Game 5, Doncic reflected on the Mavs‘ season and what needs to be done in order to improve next year.

“If we talk about our season, I’m really proud of this team. Everybody, every player, every staff member,” he commented. “Nobody had us here. But I promise we fought until the end. Congratulations to the Warriors. They were obviously the better team. But I’m really proud of this team.”

“I think defense has got to be way better for me. Honestly, I think I made a huge step this year defensively, but there’s so much room for improvement. I’ve got to be way better there. I think that’s one spot that can take us to the next level.”

Doncic finished the 2021-22 campaign with team-leading averages of 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 8.7 assists across 65 games.
