Victor Wembanyama, the overwhelming favorite to be selected No. 1 in the 2023 NBA Draft, is leaving ASVEL Villeurbanne according to L’Equipe. The 18-year-old big man is reported to have already activated the exit clause on his contract with the French League champions and will look to spend his last season in Europe before his NBA move elsewhere.

Wembanyama decides to part ways with ASVEL a few days after club president and NBA great Tony Parker said that his goal is to build the team for the upcoming season around the young player and that he hopes they can keep him on board. Now, the once again EuroLeague-bound ASVEL has to make a change in its direction.

There are several teams that are interested in getting Wembanyama, L’Equipe says. French EuroCup club Paris Basketball appears to be one of the most “serious candidates” while Boulogne -Levallois is also in the mix. The G-League Ignite has also asked for the player.
