Luka Doncic doesn’t tell the Mavericks front office who to sign or not.

Luka Doncic is the No. 1 star and face of the franchise at the Dallas Mavericks but that doesn’t mean that he tries to recruit other players during the offseason or that he interferes with the decision-making process of the front office.

“They [Dallas Mavericks] seek his [Luka Doncic] input but he’s not heavily involved in personnel decisions,” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said. “He’s not shown interest in being heavily involved. He spends much of his offseason in Europe. He’s been playing with the Slovenian national team again this summer. He’s not a guy who has shown the desire to be a recruiter.”

MacMahon made these comments regarding a recent Doncic interview by Marca, in which the Slovenian point forward said that he hopes that the Dallas management has more options among players to sign.

So far in the 2022 offseason, Luka saw his fellow Mavericks starter Jalen Brunson signing with the New York Knicks and good friend Boban Marjanovic getting traded to the Houston Rockets. Goran Dragic, Doncic’s Slovenia teammate, said that he had an offer from Dallas but he would get limited minutes from the bench.

This is probably why Dragic turned down the Mavs and decided to continue his career with the Chicago Bulls.

In 2021-22, Doncic averaged 28.4 points, 9.1 assists and 8.7 rebounds in the regular season, plus 31.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists in the playoffs as the Mavericks made the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011.
