Los Angeles Country District Attorney George Gascon announced that his office has filed felony domestic violence charges against Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges Tuesday.

“Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors,” said DA Gascon in a press release, “Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process.”

In late June, Bridges was arrested in Los Angeles for suspicion of domestic violence and was released on a $130,000 bond. The alleged assault on the defendant’s girlfriend happened on or about June 27 or June 28, according to the criminal complaint. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The NBA player is now charged with one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. The case also includes an allegation of causing great bodily injury to the domestic violence victim.

Arraignment is scheduled today, Wednesday, at Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Bridges, 24, was on the verge of signing a new contract with the Hornets or an offer sheet with another NBA team as a restricted free agent before he was arrested.

“We are aware of the charges that were filed today against Miles Bridges,” noted the Hornets in a press release, “These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor. As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

In 2021-22, the Michigan State product averaged a team-high 20.2 points per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks per contest.
