The Dallas Mavericks are looking for ways to strengthen their backcourt and provide superstar Luka Doncic with some help. While the Mavericks are waiting to see when Kemba Walker will be ready to step on the court, another veteran point appears to be targeted by the club.

According to Ric Bucher from Fox Sports, the Mavericks are interested in New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose. The former NBA MVP is averaging 6.4 points and 2.0 assists this season in 13.6 minutes.

“The Mavericks, of course, lost [Jalen] Brunson to the [New York] Knicks last summer and are in desperate need of a second playmaker to relieve All-Star point forward Luka Doncic,” writes Bucher. “They’ve brought on a former Knick, Kemba Walker, for a test run, but a league source said they also have interest in a current one, the aforementioned Rose.”

Dallas brought in Walker on a non-guaranteed deal in late November while waiving former EuroLeague star Facu Campazzo. Walker has participated in team practices but he’s still considered unavailable for actual play.

“Kemba practiced yesterday — he looks good,” Kidd said on Walker December 3rd. “We’ll see how he feels today. Hopefully, here by next week, we’ll have a better answer for you. He’s doing everything that we’ve asked him to do, and he looks good.”

Walker has had several knee problems over the last couple of years and the longer his debut is getting postponed, then the more likely it becomes that the Mavericks may be exploring other options, such as Rose.
