Finally cleared for action in January, Ricky Rubio joined the push as the Cleveland Cavaliers clinched a berth in the Playoffs.

Steering clear of his 12th campaign in the NBA, the experienced point guard revisited his options beyond the league based in North America.

“I am starting to consider my return,” he commented on intending to move his talents back to Europe during an appearance on the podcast La Sotana Sunday, “Going home. To Barcelona. Close to home.”

Confirming the endgame, Rubio wishes to play in Europe when his son starts school. “In two or three years,” was the NBA timeline shared last December.

“I have two years left on my contract. Maybe one,” added Rubio in the most recent interview referring to the 2024-25 portion not fully guaranteed, “We will see.”

In accordance with the plan presented by Rubio himself, former teams FC Barcelona and Joventut Badalona fit the bill for the destination following the NBA. Clearly, rushing to further predictions can be risky.

Rubio, 32, averaged 5.2 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per contest over 33 appearances in the Regular Season, including two starts. His role was reduced to three games played and 5.7 minutes of action per contest in the Playoffs series against the New York Knicks.

Selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the fifth overall pick of the 2009 draft, his NBA debut was delayed to the start of the 2011-12 season. Coming in as a EuroLeague champion with Barca in 2010, he has since made his way to 712 NBA games.
