The Phoenix Suns are poised to make another significant move in free agency as they have reportedly agreed to a deal with former Houston Rockets and LA Clippers guard Eric Gordon, according to Shams Charania.
While the details of the deal have not been disclosed, CBS believes that given the Suns‘ current salary cap situation, it is likely to be for the veteran minimum. The 34-year-old is expected to play a crucial role off the bench for Frank Vogel’s star-studded team.
The LA Clippers recently waived Gordon, a move that saved them over $110,000,000 on their projected tax bill.
Gordon began his NBA career with the Clippers after being selected as the 7th overall pick in the 2008 Draft. He spent two and a half seasons with the Clippers before moving to New Orleans, where he played for five years.
He then signed with the Houston Rockets, winning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award and becoming the Three-Point Contest champion in his first year. Gordon spent nearly seven years in Houston before rejoining the LA team last February.
The experienced guard averaged 13.1 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 rebounds during his time with the Rockets, and 11 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 rebounds as a Clipper in the previous season. Throughout his 15-year NBA career, he has never averaged less than 12 points per season.
The Suns have recently bolstered their roster by adding Bradley Beal to a lineup that already features stars like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton. They have also retained Cameron Payne, Damion Lee, Josh Okogie, and Ish Wainright while signing Drew Eubanks, Keita Bates-Diop, Chimezie Metu, and Yuta Watanabe in free agency.
