Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer was fired, the club announced after the end of the NBA regulars season. The team failed to even make the Play-In, finishing 11th in the Western Conference at a 36-46 record.
Per Suns:
“The Phoenix Suns announced today that the organization has relieved head coach Mike Budenholzer of his duties.
The Suns released the following statement:
Competing at the highest level remains our goal, and we failed to meet expectations this season. Our fans deserve better. Change is needed.”
Budenholzer signed a fivce-year, $50 million contract in the 2024 offseason to return to coaching after he was previously sacked by the Milwaukee Bucks in May 2023.
In 2021, Budenholzer led the Bucks to the second NBA championship title in the history of the franchise, their first after 1971.
