With rumors about his brother Giannis dominating, Thanasis Antetokounmpo shares a major career update

Thanasis Antetokounmpo announced he has been medically cleared to resume his career.

“I’m back,” he stressed during his podcast, Thanalysis Show.

With the latest episode filmed in March, the 32-year-old combo forward was joyfully referring to an opportunity to bounce back on the courts. He was cleared by doctors to play for the first time following surgery, after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in 2024.

Due to the setback, he remained an unrestricted free agent throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

It remains unclear whether he will re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks and possibly join his brother Giannis Antetokounmpo on the roster for the 2025-26 season. On a related note, the Freak is set for a meeting with the front office to discuss his future with the franchise based in Wisconsin.

A veteran of 223 NBA games, including 221 with the Bucks, Thanasis spent the previous five years in Milwaukee. In a minor role, he contributed to winning an NBA championship in 2021, with Giannis being named Finals MVP.

Besides the Bucks, he played two games with the New York Knicks during the 2015-16 Regular Season. Back in 2014, he was drafted by the Knicks with the 51st pick.

Coming out of Filathlitikos, his professional career additionally features several spells in the G League, in addition to European experience with Panathinaikos and MoraBanc Andorrra.

At the international level, he went from debuting with the senior national team of Greece in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2016 in Turin to two editions of the FIBA World Cup and two editions of EuroBasket.
