The Dallas Mavericks have made an unexpected move in their search for a new head coach, hiring University of Michigan’s Dusty May, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
Charania reported that May has agreed to take over as the Mavericks‘ next head coach, marking one of the most significant college-to-NBA coaching moves in recent years. ESPN insiders Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel also reported the development.
May arrives in Dallas after leading Michigan to the 2026 NCAA National Championship, cementing his reputation as one of the brightest coaching minds in college basketball.
