Italian prospect Luigi Suigo discusses the NBA draft, his international aspirations, and his developmental path forward following his commitment to Villanova.
The former Armani Olimpia Milan and Mega Superbet player is framing his move to the NCAA as the ultimate launching pad for his future. The 19-year-old center, an intriguing 7-foot-plus talent praised for his modern skill set, is keeping his eyes firmly on the prize.
“I would say everything has gone according to plan so far,” Suigo recently told Corriere dello Sport regarding his developmental trajectory. “I have made steady improvements, and I am really satisfied with my progress.”
For the Varese native, choosing the Wildcats was a strategic decision aimed at maximizing his draft stock under the microscopic lens of college basketball.
“The decision to join Villanova was made strictly to elevate my game and ensure I am drafted as high as possible in the next NBA draft,” he stated. “We have a strong group here. Our goal is to win our conference title and make a deep run in March Madness. Personally, my objective is to perform at a level that secures me a spot as a top-10 pick.”
Beyond his immediate collegiate goals, Suigo is eager to establish himself as the definitive face of the senior national team of Italy, after rising through the youth ranks. “I want to bring unique value to the national team and, ultimately, become the leader of the squad one day,” he expressed.
His combination of immense height, rim-protection potential, and perimeter fluidity has inevitably drawn comparisons to NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama. “Of course, it’s an honor to be called the ‘Italian Wemby,’ but I know how much work lies ahead to actually reach that level,” Suigo admitted.
