Khalifa Diop, the center of Baskonia, has left this club and is very close to signing a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to Marca, Baskonia canceled the friendly match against Gipuzkoa because they do not have enough players for it, and one of the reasons is Diop’s departure.
The Senegalese center, chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 39th pick in the 2022 Draft, has traveled with the club’s permission to Cleveland to undergo a medical examination.
If he passes the tests, the Cavaliers will decide whether to add him to their roster for the 2026-27 season.
According to the same source, Baskonia is already preparing for the scenario of his departure. Diop has an active contract, and therefore, his move to the NBA would require financial compensation for the Vitoria club.
