Former NBA star and current chief executive officer of Openjobmetis Varese, Luis Scola, recently sat down for an interview with RANDOM to discuss his post-playing career and future aspirations. The longtime captain of the senior national team of Argentina and foundational member of the golden generation opened up about his long-term executive path, revealing a deep-seated desire to eventually head back to North America.
“I would like to work in the NBA. I think it would be a good place for me. It is one of my ambitious goals, because it is difficult,” noted 46-year-old Scola.
The seasoned veteran understands that breaking into the league’s front offices requires patience and meticulous planning.
“You have to take your time, to be prepared. Because the opportunity comes, you want to do well, because if you don’t, maybe it won’t come again,” he added, emphasizing the importance of timing.
The former player also provided an intriguing comparison between his current multi-faceted role in Italy and the specialized NBA ecosystem. In his view, the massive scale of corporate organizations naturally alters an individual’s direct impact.
“Everything is so developed that your influence within the whole is very small. In other places, you can do many more things,” Scola explained. “Everyone does fewer things, which is more efficient. It’s better. In our case, we have to do a little bit of everything.”
Despite these structural differences, his ultimate target remains unchanged. “The goal would be to return at some point,” he said.
