Nicolas Batum has announced his retirement from basketball at 37, bringing an end to a career that took him from France to 18 seasons in the NBA.
The veteran forward shared the decision in a video reflecting on his journey.
“After 21 years, it’s time for me to go home,” Batum said. “It’s been 25 years since I left, 20 years as a pro. That’s a lot. Eighteen years in the NBA, 15 with the French national team.”

Batum began his professional career with Le Mans before joining Portland in 2008. He went on to play for the Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers, where he spent his final NBA season.
He was also a fixture for France, helping the national team win Olympic silver medals in Tokyo and Paris. His announcement closes a career defined by longevity on both sides of the Atlantic
