The San Antonio Spurs ready to build team chemistry as a bulked-up Victor Wembanyama readies for the 2026–27 NBA Regular Season

The physical growth of Victor Wembanyama remains a major talking point on both sides of the Atlantic.

During a recent photo session with the San Antonio Spurs, the 22-year-old French center showed off a wider, stronger frame that filled out his uniform.

Certainly, a big change from his rookie year, after being drafted with the top pick in 2023, when his lanky build made some wonder how he would hold up inside the paint. The extra weight is the result of a careful training plan designed to make him sturdier without losing his quickness.

This bulked-up look even stands out when compared to his recent run with the senior national team of France. Playing in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, Wemby looked noticeably leaner. On court for Les Bleus, he made two appearances averaging 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest, helping his country improve to 7-1 in Group L of the European Qualifiers.

Back in Texas over recent weeks, the results of his offseason weight training are obvious. Standing with his arms crossed, the added mass in his chest and shoulders is clear. He looks ready for the physical toll of a long 2026–27 Regular Season.

Heading into the preseason schedule with five matchups between October 8 and 16, the Spurs will tune up their chemistry before starting their 82-game official schedule against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Frost Bank Center on October 20.

Across 86 appearances last season until the NBA Finals, Wembanyama tallied 24.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.9 assists, and 0.9 steals per contest.
