Giannis Antetokounmpo is embracing the Heat Culture, making it clear that the Miami Heat‘s team ethos is a tangible experience rather than a mere marketing slogan.
Speaking with The Athletic in an interview posted Monday morning, the Greek forward noted that this environment was evident from the moment he arrived at the team’s September player-organized camp in Los Angeles. Recent training under head coach Erik Spoelstra at Florida Atlantic University has only backed up those initial thoughts.
When asked what makes this transition after 13 years with the Milwaukee Bucks feel authentic, Antetokounmpo pointed to the focus on communication and accountability within the roster.
“Yesterday, we had a meeting,” he shared. “There were two Navy SEALs, and they were telling their story, and we were doing push-ups.”
“It’s real, and I love it,” added the Greek Freak on the Heat Culture. “It gives me goosebumps. It’s almost like being alive again.”
Entering his 14th NBA season, Antetokounmpo is motivated to distance himself from consecutive injury-plagued runs. He is coming off a year where health issues limited him to a career-low 36 games.
“I know I’m 31, but I’m not 35 or 36 and thinking like, ‘Oh, I gotta start slowing down,’” he mentioned. “You see KD, KD just turned 38. I know I got five, six good years.”
His new side will hold an open scrimmage on Tuesday, followed by hosting the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday. After three additional exhibition games, they welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves at Kaseya Center on October 21 to launch the 2026–27 Regular Season.
