Following a breakout 2025–26 campaign, Neemias Queta enters the Boston Celtics’ training camp with a refined skill set.
After team practice on Tuesday, the 27-year-old center reflected on the hard work and chemistry. He noted that the roster has focused on film sessions and intensive workouts. While his teammates gathered for a round of golf, Queta lightheartedly sat out, admitting his swing is not yet up to par.
On the court, the main storyline surrounding the Portuguese big is his expanding offensive range. He averaged 10.1 points and 8.4 rebounds last season. Now, Queta has spent his summer fine-tuning his outside shot.
“The preparation started with just getting spot shots during the summer,” he noted. “Working on different forms, speeds, arches, and just getting a better feel for my shot.”
Fans can expect to see him spacing the floor more often due to his growing comfort. Even so, Queta remains loyal to the identity that made him an NBA champion in 2024.
“That’s my bread and butter,” he emphasized, keeping his primary focus on crashing the glass, setting screens, and scoring inside. “If I can add the three-point shot, let’s do it, but I’m not living and dying by it.”
Queta has become a reliable, impactful force for Boston. However, the frontcourt is increasingly crowded. Reinforcing the paint, the team added rim protector Mitchell Robinson alongside versatile players like Bosnian Luka Garza. The Lisbon native has embraced the deep rotation, calling the unit one of the league’s best frontcourts.
His steady growth is a massive plus for the franchise. The C’s open their four-game Preseason 2026 schedule this Thursday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, ramping up for their 2026–27 Regular Season opener against the Detroit Pistons in Little Caesars Arena on October 20.
