The arrival of the NBA in Europe is a hot topic in basketball right now, especially after the meeting at Como, where the Euroleague rejected the NBA’s initial proposal.
However, a well-known NBA analyst believes that a collaboration will happen.
He highlighted this during “The Hoop Collective podcast” live from Manila, Philippines, where he also touched on the flow of international players in the NBA.
“I think the flow of international players in the NBA is even going to grow because two things: one, the NBA is expanding to Europe, it’s going to happen, I promise you. And part of the way that they’re going to get everybody to buy in there is that they are going to guarantee investment in European players. This is going to be part of their sales pitch when they get it done.
They’re going to limit how many American players can be on there, they’re going to expand the rosters because they’re going to be playing in two different leagues, their national league and the NBA, and they’re going to say the reason you should care about our new teams in London and in Rome and elsewhere, and the existing teams, is we’re going to develop European players. And they are going to Europe for 20 years or more. They’re investing in it like they did the WNBA. They don’t care if it doesn’t do great or somebody kicks rocks on it in the first year, they’re going to invest in it.
Secondly, international basketball is thriving. It’s thriving here in the Philippines, it’s thriving in other parts of Asia. Look at the Japanese are turning out players, the Japanese have become a powerhouse. In Australia, we just had on our podcast, we brought you 17-year-old Luke Paul, who has a chance to be the next great Australian player.”
