The New York star says his focus remains on another championship after the team postponed contract talks

Karl-Anthony Towns said he was caught off guard by the Knicks’ decision to postpone all contract extension negotiations until later in the season.

“It was news to me,” Towns told reporters after Sunday’s practice, per ESPN. “Very disappointed, to say the least. Let’s state the obvious: It’s business, but there is business on the court for us to handle.”

Towns is eligible for an extension worth up to $276 million, while ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that New York offered $200 million over four years. Despite the uncertainty, he wants the team’s attention to remain on basketball.

“We’re all humans,” Towns said. “My only philosophy since we won, the only thing I’ve had in my mind, is about how do we win another one.”

After helping the Knicks win their first NBA championship in 53 years, Towns said his ambition has not changed.

“How do we keep the trophy in New York past just this one summer?”
