Orlando Magic star Paolo Banchero has sustained a low-grade right high ankle sprain, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The diagnosis typically carries a recovery timetable of four to six weeks, although a specific return date has not been confirmed.
Banchero suffered the injury early in the third quarter of Friday’s 115–93 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He landed awkwardly while contesting a rebound alongside teammate Jalen Suggs and headed to the locker room for evaluation.
The forward briefly returned to action, initially easing concerns, but did not play in the fourth quarter. He finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists in 26 minutes as Orlando dropped to 0–2.
The setback comes after Banchero played 72 games last season, having been limited to 46 appearances by a torn oblique muscle in 2024–25. Orlando now faces the prospect of navigating the coming weeks without one of its main offensive weapons.
