The injury bug bites the NBA, slowing down a couple of strong starts to the 2026–27 Regular Season

Several injury updates have emerged across the NBA ahead of Wednesday’s matchups, including major setbacks for key contributors early in the 2026–27 Regular Season.

The Houston Rockets will be shorthanded at Fiserv Forum against the Milwaukee Bucks. They have officially ruled out Turkish starter Alperen Sengun with low back soreness.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves face a massive blow. Anthony Edwards is set to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee that will sideline him for up to two months, according to multiple reports in North America.

Furthermore, Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat prepare to face the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena, but Italian Simone Fontecchio did not travel with his squad due to an illness.

The Utah Jazz are also managing a depleted frontcourt prior to their clash with the San Antonio Spurs at the Delta Center. Finnish Lauri Markkanen is considered day-to-day and is labeled questionable to play following a right wrist sprain on Monday. However, teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. faces a much longer absence, since he sustained a torn MCL in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in six weeks.

Roster depth is being tested in Texas, too. The Oklahoma City Thunder enter their meeting against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center with a thin rotation, made worse by Belgian Ajay Mitchell being listed as questionable with a right ankle sprain.

For the Mavs, there is minor progress. Spanish Santi Aldama, recovering from right knee surgery, and Turkish Tarik Biberovic, dealing with right heel bursitis, have both been upgraded to doubtful. In contrast, Spanish Sergio de Larrea has been downgraded to out with a right knee sprain.

They join a lengthy list of other European players expected to remain sidelined, including Ariel Hukporti, Noah Penda, Kristaps Porzingis, Yanic Konan Niederhauser, Jusuf Nurkic, Nikola Topic, Tristan Vukcevic, and Ivica Zubac.
