Victor Wembanyama delivered a career-high 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks against Dallas — then insisted he could play even better.
The French star powered San Antonio to a 112–111 victory despite battling a virus and tweaking his ankle in the fourth quarter. His assessment afterward focused on the shots he missed.
“I can still do more,” Wembanyama said, via the Associated Press. “My shots weren’t falling tonight and that forces me into a style of play that is exhausting. I can do it. I mean the proof is here. I can do it, but I can be much better if my shots fall. I know it’s just a matter of time.”
Wembanyama shot 16-of-28 from the field and 19-of-23 at the foul line. With only one of his eight three-point attempts falling, he attacked inside, finishing 14-of-18 in the paint.
He had already amassed 29 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks by halftime, becoming the first player in the play-by-play era, dating to 1996, to register at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a half.
The victory was San Antonio’s fifth straight after opening the season with two losses.
