Dylan Harper reached for a historic comparison after Victor Wembanyama delivered 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks in San Antonio’s 112–111 win over Dallas.
“He’s basically Wilt [Chamberlain],” Harper said. “The other team tries to do everything. They throw out any adjustment, every adjustment. It’s hard to keep big fella out of the paint.”
Wembanyama also blocked three shots in just 13 seconds during the second quarter, leaving his teammate impressed by more than his scoring.
“If I got blocked three times in a row, I feel like I’d be pretty upset,” Harper said. “But that’s Vic. He takes pride on the defensive side and things like that are just natural to him.”
Despite setting career highs in points and rebounds and making the decisive free throw with 24.2 seconds remaining, Wembanyama believes performances like this can become more frequent.
“Also, I haven’t been feeling great lately. I’m sick. I felt like I got my legs back,” he said. “So, it should be more like this more often.”
