Stephen Curry went looking for the game ball after Golden State’s 126–119 overtime win over Orlando on Saturday.

At 38, he had just scored 41 points to pass LeBron James for the most 40-point games by an NBA player aged 35 or older.

“It’s kind of a weird one, but it makes me super proud of the work I’ve put in and the idea I can still get to a certain level,” Curry said, as quoted by the San Francisco Chronicle. “You kind of feed off that, and especially winning like we did tonight where we needed all of them. I appreciate the longevity.”

Curry scored 12 points in the final two-plus minutes of regulation, including a floater in traffic that put Golden State ahead with about 25 seconds left. Jamal Cain’s putback forced overtime, but Curry added five more points in the extra period to help the Warriors win their seventh straight. He shot 13-for-19 from the field, made five threes and hit all 10 of his free throws.

“It never gets old,” Draymond Green said. “He always does something where it can’t get old – there’s always something different. Down the stretch, you kind of get to a point where you expect him to make those plays, but I try to never take it for granted.”

Curry and Green watched the start of overtime from the bench before returning with 3:48 left. After the game, Curry told his teammates why the two veterans had looked frustrated when Steve Kerr sent out a different group.

“We had a reaction because we’re competitors and we want to be out there,” Curry said. “The conversation and energy was more frustration for us, not doubt in the unit going out there. So we wanted to make sure they knew that, because they’ve been playing well all year.”
