Will we see Joel Embiid joining the French national team?

Almost four years ago, Joel Embiid turned down an invitation on Twitter by Nicolas Batum to play for the French national team. But it seems he feels rather differently about the whole thing now.

After the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics in London, the Cameroonese big guy was asked if he would play for France and he didn’t rule out the possibility of joining “Les Bleus”.

“I think it’s an opportunity,” Embiid said after a question by French RMC Sport. “You never know. I might play for the French national team but I might also play for Cameroon. I have a lot of relatives in France.”

During the 2014 World Cup, Nicolas Batum had asked the Sixers center to play for France but Embiid replied that he’s not French.

Embiid, 23, was invited to play with Cameroon in the past but never donned the jersey of his country’s national team.
