Mitch Kupchak, the Charlotte Hornets General Manager and President of Basketball Operations, officially announced that the team relieved Steve Clifford from the head coach position. Clifford was named the head coach in May 2013 and his overall record until now was 196-214 and the team qualified twice for the playoffs (2013 and 2016). The Hornets finished the 2017-18 regular season with a 36-46 record.

The official announcement by Kupchak  is as follows:

“I want to thank Coach Clifford for his contributions to the Hornets. I know he has worked incredibly hard on behalf of the organization and we wish him the best moving forward. The search for a new coach will begin immediately.”
