San Antonio Spurs forward Davis Bertans commented on the opinion of the US audience on EuroLeague basketball while lauding Luka Doncic’s achievements in EuroLeague (and the Spanish ACB League).

The Latvian player actually said that he doubts if any college player would manage to do what Doncic has accomplished this season.

“Why do people in States still think EuroLeague is soft? I don’t think any of the college players would be capable of what Luka Doncic did this season in EuroLeague and ACB and for sure not at age 19,” Bertans wrote on his Twitter account.

The 25-year-old Spurs player spent six seasons (2011-2016) playing in Euroleague and two (2014-2016) in ACB  before moving to San Antonio and has a firsthand knowledge of the kind of competition Doncic faces.

Bertans played against Doncic last summer in the EuroBasket quarterfinal game between Latvia and Slovenia. In what was widely considered as one of the best matches of the tournament, Doncic led Slovenia to a 103 – 97 win with 26 points and nine rebounds while Bertans had 23 points.
