Manu Ginobili’s impact extended beyond the four lines of the basketball court, especially when it comes to the influence he had on Argentinian sports. Naturally, the words of praise following the Manu’s retirement didn’t include messages only from basketball representatives.
Following a statement by Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi also saluted Ginobili with a post on his official Facebook page.
“Thanks for making us enjoy basketball so much, Manu! Things won’t be the same without you on the court. Wishing you all the very best in your new chapter!” wrote Messi.
This isn’t the first time that Messi speaks with such admiration for Ginobili. In 2013’s Ginobili’s biography titled “Lord Of Talents” Messi wrote “It makes me very proud to hear a journalist say that Manu is the Messi of basketball, in fact, they should say that I am the Manu of football.” in the book’s prologue.
