Lauri Markkanen suffered an elbow injury and won’t be available to Chicago at the start of the season.

The 21-year-old Finnish power forward Lauri Markkanen won’t be available to the Chicago Bulls at the start of the season due to a right elbow injury. The estimated time of recovery is eight weeks at most.

The Bulls will kickstart the 2018-19 regular season against the 76ers in Philadelphia on October 18.

The official announcement by the Bulls is as follows:

Lauri Markkanen sustained a right elbow injury in practice on Thursday, Sept. 27. He underwent an MRI today that showed a high grade lateral elbow sprain. Markkanen is estimated to be out six-to-eight weeks.
