As veteran NBA journalist Peter Vecsey reported Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and Rick Pitino have talked about the vacancy.

Pitino is currently preparing for Game 3 of the EuroLeague playoffs between his team, Panathinaikos OPAP, and Real Madrid which has a 2-0 lead in the series.

The Hall of Fame coach is a marquee name in the NCAA, winning two championships, one with Kentucky in 1995-96 and another with Louisville in 2012-13, which was vacated in 2018. Due to this controversy, he was forced to travel overseas and coach Panathinaikos.

In the past, he has coached the Knicks and the Celtics.

It has to be noted that Panathinaikos also wants to keep Pitino for next season, however, no official talks between the two sides have not yet initiated.

In the meantime, Pitino has said many times that he would like to have one more shot in coaching an NBA team and the Cavs may be a good situation for him.
