Tayshaun Prince was recently promoted to the Memphis Grizzlies Vice President of Basketball Affairs and one of his focuses has been the search for a new head coach.

The Grizzlies’ interest in Zalgiris’ Sarunas Jasikveicius has already been reported and Prince arrived in Lithuania on Thursday night (2/5) where he will meet with the Lithuanian coach in the near future, according to basketnews.lt.

There have also been reports about the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ interest in Jasikevicius but the 43-year-old coach noted that, although there have been various contacts with NBA clubs, it’s still too early to speak about his future and a possible deal.

“There are more calls, more attention. If last year there was only Toronto, then this year there’s more interest. But again, those are calls, very early stages, there’s not much to comment”, Jasikevicius said after his squad’s win over Juventus in a game for the Lithuanian LKL league.

Zalgiris which is the local powerhouse got the easy 82-68 win and leads the league with a 28-4 record. The EuroLeague season of the club was completed a few days ago with Zalgiris losing the quarterfinal playoffs series to heavily favorited Fenerbahce BEKO (3-1). Still, Zalgiris and Jasikevicius once more turned heads with a strong finish in the regular season after making last year’s Final Four for the first time since 1999.
