Luka Doncic was a sensation in his rookie NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks. The Slovenian point forward finished the 2018-2019 campaign with 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game and became a top contender for winning “Rookie of the Year.”

“I didn’t expect it at all. I didn’t know I was going to play so well. I knew I could play but not [that I could play] so well,” Doncic said on his performances to Lucio Angulo of Spanish network Movistar+, during the Spanish ACB League playoffs game of Real Madrid against Manresa.

Doncic attended the game, together with Mavericks teammate and once Real Madrid teammate Salah Mejri. “I’m a real Madridista,” Doncic said. “I always watch the games in Dallas. Here.. I’m more nervous than when I was playing.”

Regarding Mejri, Doncic said: “We are always together, so he has helped me a lot.”
