Dallas Mavericks coach Luka Carlisle must be quite satisfied with the work his star player and reigning Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic puts on during offseason.

“I know he’s working his butt off this summer,” Carlisle said to the Dallas Morning News. “I know he’s very motivated for this season.”

Doncic had some phenomenal performances in his debut NBA campaign en route to averaging 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds plus 6.0 assists and winning ROY. The 20-year-old Slovenian player is now spending his summer improving his physical condition after getting challenged to do so also by Mavs owner Mark Cuban.

On Thursday, Doncic posted a slideshow on his Instagram profile with pictures of his workout sessions.

“It’s just a natural progression that every player needs to have going from Year 1 to Year 2, especially someone like Luka that had such a great first year,” Carlisle said. “People are really going to be coming for him in his second year, and the continued work on body and conditioning and developing his game is going to keep moving him in the direction of becoming a really great player.”
