The City Council of Dallas voted unanimously in favor of permanently renaming part of Olive Street to Nowitzki Way to honor Dirk Nowitzki. Reports on the intention of the council members surfaced three months ago.

The 41-year-old German went through his entire NBA career playing for the Dallas Mavericks. A few months after retiring he got a street of the Texan city named after him.

Nowitzki Way is close to the American Airlines Center, the Mavs home. The multi-purpose arena was the place to be during his playing career, but afterwards will still have Nowitzki Way in the neighborhood.
