Nikola Kusturica’s talent can’t be doubted; still, his performance against North Florida turned a lot of heads and opened a lot of eyes in the US.
The UCLA freshman made every one of his shots in the first half for 26 of his 29 points, as the 22nd-ranked Bruins (2-0) won 114-63 on Friday night at Pauley Pavilion.
The Serbian 17-year-old finished the night with 10 made shots out of 12 attempts and also had six rebounds.
“Seeing the ball go in helps the confidence a lot, so when I saw the first one go in I was a little relieved,” Kusturica said after the game.
“When I came here, I was struggling, especially adjusting to the college game,” he added. “The first couple of weeks for me have been tough adjusting to coach Cronin’s system.”
Kusturica shot 9 of 9 from the floor, 4 of 4 from the 3-point range and hit all four of his free throws as the Bruins turned a one-point deficit into a 52-20 halftime lead, finishing the game early on.
