Croatia coach Veljko Mrsic raised the question of how prepared will the athletes that will compete in the 2020 Olympics be, if and when the Games will take place.

“It’s a difficult situation. Even if the Olympics are held, in what condition will the athletes be when they get there,” Mrsic said in an interview with Croatian website Sportnet.

The Croatian national team is hosting one of the four Olympic Qualifiers Tournaments in Split. Mrsic and his players are facing Tunisia and Brazil in Group B while Russia, Germany and Mexico are playing in Group A. Croatia is considered among the heavy favorites to punch a ticket to the Olympics.

Among the Croatian national team’s major stars is Phoenix Suns forward Dario Saric. Mrsic mentioned that Saric was told by his team that he can return to his country.

“I heard from Dario Saric,” Mrsic said. “He says they were given permission to go to their homes. From this, it can be concluded that the NBA continuing is also very questionable.”

While Saric was allowed to return to Croatia, according to Mrsic, Chicago Bulls‘ Czech guard Tomas Satoransky had said that he wants to go back to the Czech Republic with his family but “it’s not up to him.”
