Olympic Games scoring king Oscar Schmidt hopes that Luka Doncic will be the one to break his single-game scoring record of 55 points.

“I’m hoping he [Doncic] beats my record, I’m a Luka fan,” Schmidt said via the Brazilian Basketball Federation. He made his comments shortly following Doncic’s 48-point output in a win over Argentina in Slovenia’s Olympics opener.

Schmidt set the record in 1988 when he dropped 55 points against Spain. It’s quite a number to surpass but Doncic came quite close to and, if he continues playing like that, he may actually register a new all-time Olympic record in this year’s edition of the tournament.

Doncic may have the opportunity to do that in Slovenia’s upcoming game against Japan. The Mavericks star will look to double his national team’s victories and secure a first-time trip to the quarterfinals of the competition after opening the tournament with 48 points, the most scored by a European player ever in the Olympics.
