Slovenia is still unbeaten with Luka Doncic in its lineup, 16-0 in official games, as they also prevailed over Spain (95-87) in the game that decided the top seed in Group C of the Olympic basketball tournament.
Doncic had 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 assists, Mike Tobey was huge down the stretch with 16 points and 14 rebounds, Klemen Prepelic hit the go-ahead triple and finished with 15 points, and Vlatko Cancar had 22 points.
“This is a good team. This is not only Doncic. I am pleased about how Luka read the situation and reacted to that. He showed his class, his mental toughness, his competitiveness, and his understanding of what was going on. We almost accomplished what we wanted to do, but you have to give credit to the opponent. They have very talented and competitive players besides Luka,” said Sergio Scariolo, Spain head coach.
Spain got 18 points and 9 assists from Ricky Rubio, but they finish second, with a prospect of facing the USA in the Quarter-Finals. The game was close, with Slovenia entering the last period leading 70-68 and winning the fourth quarter 27-17.
