Onuaku leads Bnei Herzliya to 2022 Israeli State Cup

For the second time in the club’s history, Bnei Herzliya is crowned Israeli State Cup winner.

Chinanu Onuaku posted 30 points and 17 rebounds as Bnei Herzliya beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 87 – 82 in the Israeli State Cup Final to claim the trophy. Herzliya won the title for the second time in the history of the club after 1995.

Onuaku, who won MVP, shot 10-17 on 2-pointers plus 10-13 from the free-throw line to accumulate a total number of 50 in PIR. Shawn Dawson added 16 points, Chris Babb scored 13 and Quinton Hooker had 12 points for the winning squad.

From Hapoel Tel Aviv, that eliminated rival Maccabi Tel Aviv to reach the title game, J’ Covan Brown and James Young scored 21 points apiece. Their team entered the game hot to lead 21 – 12 but Herzliya balanced the game to close halftime down 39 – 37.

The two teams remained close until the final stretch when Onuaku, Dawson and Hooker combined for a surge that led their team to the title.
