Maccabi Tel Aviv adds another silverware to its large trophy case.

Alex Poythress posted 24 points and seven rebounds to lead Maccabi Tel Aviv to a 88 – 84 victory over rival Hapoel Tel Aviv in the 2022 Israeli Winner Cup Final. The American big man claimed MVP as his team celebrated winning the title for a third straight season and 10th overall.

Maccabi was in control for the first 30 minutes and led 62 – 53 at the end of the third quarter. That was when Hapoel rallied for a strong 3 – 13 comeback that gave them their first lead of the game, 65 – 66.

Bar Timor tied the score at 73 from the free-throw line in the last seconds to force the extra period. Lorenzo Brown and Poythress handed Maccabi a 86 – 81 lead with 18 seconds left in overtime and Bonzie Colson sealed the win for the Yellows with free throws.

Brown delivered 20 points and nine assists for Maccabi while Roman Sorkin scored 12 and grabbed eight rebounds. Xavier Munford (23 points) and Jordan McRae (16 points, five rebounds) were Hapoel’s top contributors.
