Maccabi Tel Aviv almost fell victim to another upset by Gilboa Galil, this time for the Israeli Cup, but ultimately survived with a 77 – 76 victory to advance in the competition’s quarterfinals.

Sylven Landesberg made the game-winning free throw for the “Yellows” with 10 seconds to go after grabbing a key offensive rebound. Moments before, Jason Siggers had tied the score but he was also the one to miss in the “take it all” shot.

Sonny Weems paced Μaccabi with 20 points while Victor Rudd added 16 and Maik Zirbes 12. For Gilboa Galil, Ezequiel Skverer had 16 and Eric Griffin 14, as much as Siggers.

Once again Maccabi held a lead during the majority of the game, yet never felt quite safe. Gilboa Galil managed to keep its opponents at closed distanced, but failed to capitalize on their efforts, due to Landesberg on one hand, plus Siggers’ great missed opportunity on the other.
