Gal Mekel and Colton Iverson combined for 42 points and 13 rebounds as Maccabi Tel Aviv narrowly survived Maccabi Haifa and an epic Will Graves (34 points) 97 – 96 at home to remain at the first place of the Israeli League’s standings.

The Israeli guard dropped 21 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds plus a key basket for the 97 – 94 while Iverson flirted double-double after 21 points plus 9 rebounds. Victor Rudd added 18 points, 6 rebounds and Sylven Landesberg had 17.

Haifa had a chance to take all in the end, but fell short in the final possession. After Gregory Vargas made it 97 – 96 from the line, his team stole the ball but he missed the shot that would’ve won the match.

This victory didn’t come without a cost for Maccabi since Devin Smith twisted his ankle during the first half. He’s doubtful for the upcoming EuroLeague match between the Israelis and Olympiacos in Tel Aviv.
