Zalgiris survived despite Birutis’ career-high

Zalgiris escaped Siauliai and Laurynas Birutis after a close game in the SIL-King Mindaugas Cup quarter-final.

Zalgiris qualified for the Final Four of the Lithuanian SIL-King Mindaugas Cup with a win over Siauliai at home 85-78.

Laurynas Birutis was simply unstoppable tonight scoring an incredible career-high 35 points while grabbing 11 rebounds for the visitors. Yet his amazing performance wasn’t enough for Siauliai to counter Zalgiris‘ quality.

Still, Siauliai really tested the LKL powerhouse. After 20 minutes of action, Zalgiris was up only by 3 points (43-40) after trailing in the first quarter 21-17.

In the second half Lithuanian powerhouse were able to extend the lead up to 11 points, but the visitors didn’t give up. With 2 minutes left in the game, Siauliai was trailing by 3 points (81-78). However, Zalgiris was able to close the game as they are heading to the Final Four.

The Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic had a good night leading Zalgiris with 14 points and 7 assists followed by Artūras Milaknis’ 13 points.
