A very focused Zalgiris, especially in defense, seemed ready for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague playoffs match against Olympiacos.

With the exception of the late third quarter, Zalgiris Kaunas had the complete control of the game and won against Lietuvos Rytas Vilniaus 77-66 in the Lithuanian League. This was a clash of the top two teams in the league and a very important match in the fight for the first place at the end of the regular season. After this win, Zalgiris is safer on the top with a 27-4 record while Rytas is right below with 25-6.

Brandon Davies, who decided to stay with Zalgiris for two more years, led the victors with 14 points. Edgaras Ulanovas added 13 in addition to Paulius Jankunas’ 12 points. On the other side, Mindaugas Girdziunas and Rokas Giedraitis score 11 points each.

The game started better and was playing out in favor of the home team until the late third quarter. Zalgiris allowed only 31 points to the opponent in 27 minutes which was the main reason they were in front by a 19 point margin. In those two and a half minutes until the end of the third period, Lietuvos ‘shined’ for the first and the last time in this game. They made a 13-2 run to win the third quarter and decrease the margin to eight points (54-46). But, after a small break, Zalgiris consolidated and continued as if nothing happened, finishing the game in a secure fashion.
