Jaylen Hoard stars in French battle, Gudmundsson gets double-double

Wake Forest scored a tough victory over Western Carolina on Tuesday.

Wake Forest (4-2) got its 2018-19 NCAA season back on track with a 71-64 win over Western Carolina (2-6). Promising Jaylen Hoard was among the main contributors with 17 points, while his French compatriot Olivier Sarr added three points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Senior French forward, Marc Gosselin, notched ten points for the losing side.

Jon Axel Gudmundsson posted a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double in Davidson’s (6-1) 76-56 win against Charlotte (2-3). Luka Brajkovic poured 12 points. Dusan Kovacevic and David Czerapowicz also played for the Wildcats, but didn’t score. However, the latter did gather six rebounds. Serb Milos Supica had 14 points for the 49ers.

Djordje Dimitrijevic scored 15 points and dished nine assists in Mercer’s (4-3) easy 90-65 win against Brewton-Parker. In another Division I vs. Division III NCAA match, Francisco Alonso poured 15 points and UNC Greensboro (7-1) destroyed Greensboro with 111-33.

Senior Irish forward John Carroll was also in action. He sank 26 points with 8/21 from the field in Hartford’s (2-6) 98-89 defeat at the hands of Sacred Heart (3-4). He is now averaging 16.7 points per game in the 2018-19 season.
