Martin Krampelj scores 17 points, Yves Pons shines in first start

Martin Krampelj and Yves Pons highlighted the European field in Wednesday’s NCAA matches.

Junior forward Martin Krampelj posted a season-high 17 points in Creighton’s (6-1) 98-72 victory over Montana (4-2). The young Slovenian had 6/7 free throws, 4/6 two-pointers and 1/1 three-pointers.

Yves Pons got his first NCAA double-digit game in his first career start and #6 Tennessee (5-1) beat Eastern Kentucky (3-4) 95-67. The sophomore swingman grabbed an offensive rebound and sank a three in the game’s first possession and finished up with 10 points, five rebounds, one assist and two blocks.

German Oscar Da Silva posted 12 points, four assists, four rebounds, four blocks and a steal in Stanford’s (4-3) 79-67 win over Portland State (3-3). Lithuanian Lukas Kisunas added four points, an assist and two blocks.

Portuguese Diogo Brito and Neemias Queta helped Utah State (6-1) in its 71-52 victory over Northern Iowa (3-4). The junior guard had six points, five rebounds and three steals, while the promising center added five points, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

Dutch Matt Haarms notched six points, five rebounds and an assist in #19 Purdue (5-2) 73-72 loss at the hands of #15 Florida State (6-1). Swiss freshman Anthony Polite had an assist for the Seminoles.

Seattle (7-2) finished the Elgin Baylor Classic with a 107-72 win against Northwest University. Matej Kavas notched 12 points, three rebounds and an assist in for the Redhawks, Mattia Da Campo added seven points.

Andre Gustavson continued his freshman season with eight points, ten rebounds and a steal. However Richmond (2-5) lost to Georgetown (6-1) with 90-82.
