Maccabi Tel Aviv voiced its support to the decision of the fans of the team (as expressed by the club’s official fan club) to boycott the Israeli Winner League Final Four.

The “The Gate” Maccabi fan club issued an announcement in which they request that the Final Four format should be “banned”. Via a Facebook post, Maccabi said that the club goes “hand in hand” with the fans and supports their position “in the battle against the Final Four system”.

The Israeli Winner League is the only major European domestic championship (apart from VTB which is a collective league with teams from Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Kazakhstan, and Belarus) where the title decided on a Final Four format. In all other leagues, the champion emerges from the playoffs.
